The Region

The Hunter is home ground.

Accurate Stabilising has operated from Newcastle since 2001 and runs every crew and every piece of plant from its own depot at Redhead, bought by the owners in 2015. For a council or contractor anywhere from Newcastle and Lake Macquarie up through Maitland and Cessnock, that means a stabilisation crew that mobilises the same morning, not from three hours away.

It also means the full fleet is close: stabilisers, spreaders, water carts, rollers and the workshop that maintains them. When ground conditions turn out different from the design, the answer is a phone call and a machine, not a week's delay.

Accurate holds Local Government Procurement approval and Regional Procurement prequalification for Hunter council work, and the fleet is MDG15-compliant for the region's mine sites.

A trusted regional partner

Local knowledge. Proven capability.

Hunter councils are where the business started: the first long-term council tender contracts came within a year of founding, and councils across the region remain the core of the work. Accurate holds Local Government Procurement approval and Regional Procurement prequalification, through which Hunter councils can engage without a separate tender for works within scope.

  • Local relationships

Council work since the first year of the business, with the depot, workshop and crews all here.

  • Proven systems

TfNSW prequalified. ISO certified. LGP approved.

  • Lasting outcomes

Roads rebuilt stronger from what is already there.

Local experience

Built for Hunter conditions.

The Hunter's pavements sit on everything from coastal sand around Newcastle and Lake Macquarie to the alluvial clays of the Hunter River floodplain through Maitland and up the valley. The floodplain ground holds water and moves with it, which is why so many of the region's roads fail from the subgrade up rather than at the surface. The treatment follows the ground. On sandy coastal material, cement or slag/lime binders give a granular base the cohesion it lacks. On the floodplain clays, lime treatment of the subgrade comes first, to dry and de-plasticise it, before the base is bound above. Somerset Drive at Thornton and Marshall Avenue at Metford, both full rehabilitations on Hunter floodplain ground, were delivered exactly this way.

Cost efficiency

Same ground. Lower costs.

In-situ stabilisation reuses the material already in the ground, so there is no new material to import and no spoil to cart away. Less transport, less handling and a single mobilisation of plant make it a faster, more cost-effective way to rebuild a road.

Traditional approach

More transport. Higher costs. Longer program.

  • Import material

New gravel carted in from the quarry, load by load.

  • Export waste

The old pavement dug out and trucked away as spoil.

  • More plant and labour

Extra trucks, excavators and crew on site for longer.

  • Increased costs

Haulage, tipping and program time all add to the price.

In-situ stabilisation

Less movement. A smarter solution.

  • Reuse existing material

Stabilise on site, with nothing imported and nothing carted away.

  • Lower transport costs

Fewer truck movements, less haulage and less disruption to traffic.

  • Faster delivery

One pass of the recycler, compacted and back under traffic sooner.

FAQs / Hunter

Common questions.

Get in touch
01What is in-situ stabilisation?

It strengthens a road by mixing binders into the existing pavement material in place, rather than digging it out and replacing it. The result is a stronger, longer-lasting pavement built from the material already on site.

02When is in-situ stabilisation the right solution?

When the material in the road is worth reusing. Test pits or cores establish what is there; if the failure is in strength or moisture rather than missing material, stabilisation rebuilds the road in place.

03Do you work with councils and government contracts?

Yes. Accurate is a Local Government Procurement approved contractor and is Transport for NSW prequalified across Z1, A2, R2 and F2.

04How long does the process take?

Far less time than dig-out reconstruction. The recycler works the road in place, compaction follows the same day, and the road carries traffic again sooner.

05Where in the Hunter do you work?

Anywhere from Newcastle and Lake Macquarie up through Maitland and Cessnock, with the full fleet and workshop close by at Redhead.
