In-situ road stabilisation on the Mid North Coast
In-situ stabilisation and rehabilitation from Forster and Taree to Coffs Harbour, with completed work across the MidCoast LGA.
The Region
Taree is about two hours north of Accurate's Redhead depot up the Pacific Highway; Forster and Tuncurry about the same.
A stabilisation crew mobilises with everything it needs and works the job through. The plant stays on site, the material is already in the road, and there's no daily convoy of material trucks up and down the highway.
Accurate has completed work across the MidCoast LGA and at Mullaway Point near Coffs Harbour, is a named contractor for MidCoast Council, and holds Local Government Procurement approval. Accurate runs a regional office on the Mid North Coast alongside the Newcastle head office, so crews and plant are close to the work rather than two hours from it.
Cost efficiency
Same ground. Lower costs.
In-situ stabilisation reuses the material already in the ground, so there is no new material to import and no spoil to cart away. Less transport, less handling and a single mobilisation of plant make it a faster, more cost-effective way to rebuild a road.
Traditional approach
More transport. Higher costs. Longer program.

Import material
New gravel carted in from the quarry, load by load.

Export waste
The old pavement dug out and trucked away as spoil.

More plant and labour
Extra trucks, excavators and crew on site for longer.

Increased costs
Haulage, tipping and program time all add to the price.
In-situ stabilisation
Less movement. A smarter solution.

Reuse existing material
Stabilise on site, with nothing imported and nothing carted away.
Lower transport costs
Fewer truck movements, less haulage and less disruption to traffic.
Faster delivery
One pass of the recycler, compacted and back under traffic sooner.
Local experience
Built for Mid North Coast conditions.
The MidCoast LGA runs from the coast at Forster and Tuncurry, across the Manning River floodplain around Taree, and up into the ranges toward Gloucester and Krambach. The pavements reflect it. On the coastal strip, sandy soils and a high water table call for the same treatment as Port Stephens: cement or slag/lime to give a granular base cohesion. On the Manning floodplain, alluvial clays hold water and move, so lime treatment of the subgrade comes first, then the base. Inland, on roads like The Bucketts Way, the terrain is steeper, the material variable, and a large share of the rural network is unsealed with the maintenance budget spread thin. The region was hit hard by flooding in recent years, and much of the rehabilitation work now funded is betterment: rebuilding roads stronger than they were rather than like-for-like. In-situ stabilisation suits that brief. It binds the existing pavement into a stronger, less moisture-sensitive layer for around half the cost of reconstruction.

FAQs / Mid North Coast
Common questions.
01What is in-situ stabilisation?
It strengthens a road by mixing binders into the existing pavement material in place, rather than digging it out and replacing it. The result is a stronger, longer-lasting pavement built from the material already on site.
02When is in-situ stabilisation the right solution?
When the material in the road is worth reusing. Test pits or cores establish what is there; if the failure is in strength or moisture rather than missing material, stabilisation rebuilds the road in place.
03Do you work with councils and government contracts?
Yes. Accurate is a Local Government Procurement approved contractor and is Transport for NSW prequalified across Z1, A2, R2 and F2.
04How long does the process take?
Far less time than dig-out reconstruction. The recycler works the road in place, compaction follows the same day, and the road carries traffic again sooner.
05How far is the Mid North Coast from your depot?
Taree is about two hours north of Redhead up the Pacific Highway, Forster and Tuncurry about the same. The plant stays on site for the job.
